Final

So my final for my Cityscape class was due at 3 am. I worked on a big Annapolis painting all day Saturday, and yesterday decided it would be easier to start a new one than finish that one. I hadn't gotten too far, and had a the Relief Society Christmas party tonight. When I got home, I was SO tired I couldn't stay awake to paint, so I decided to take a catnap on the couch in my studio and wake up in an hour or so to paint. I was really cold, so I moved the ceramic heater closer to warm my cold legs. My studio couch is tiny so I must have moved my leg off the couch a little- I woke up to a painful burning sensation and saw that my whole leg was burned. I had blisters on the only part where actual skin was exposed just above my sock line. Ouch! Thank goodness, though, or I would have slept and not turned in my final :)

Vivo SOLD

The big winner! This weekend was Paint Annapolis, a juried plein air painting event. I wasn't in the main show, but I participated in the timed "Dueling Brushes" competition.

Honestly, I didn't think my painting stood a chance. There were tons of fabulous paintings.

But when they were announcing the winners, they called my name. I sold it too. A great day for painting!

Eastport Zinnias

I was hoping for something a little less messy :) This was painted on location. I walk by these flowers all the time and I love them.

The Fire Hydrant

Another Plein Air.

Church Circle

My first plein air painting of the season. Not great but yippee!

Napa Valley

I don't think I've actually ever seen a vineyard like this, so I don't know if this is what it would really look like. I was experimenting with a yellow analogous split-complimentary color scheme.

Life Update

I've had several people checking out my blog lately, so I thought I'd better update a bit. So, last May my husband got orders to deploy. We moved out of our house, and then his orders got canceled. We had a fabulous summer, and I managed to finish two classes for my MFA while we were on the road. My fall semester started at the beginning of Sept. My third baby, Luke, was born on Halloween day (right at midterm). It was quite the whirlwind with getting settled, being pregnant, having a baby and then the holidays. Luke is now two months old, we've had some time to get things in order, and I'm ready to really get to work again (at least as much as possible with 3 kids :)
Here is some of the work I did last semester. The painting of the girl in a dress with flowers is a copy of a painting by Daniel Gerhartz called "Secret".
